Anger Management

A good book to read with children to help them understand their feelings of anger is, ‘The Red Beast’. The book looks at how our bodies feel when we are angry and gives us strategies that we can use to help us calm down.

After reading the book and having a discussion with the child, we have then completed a social story together. We have looked specifically at issues that make the child feel angry, frustrated or upset and the behaviours that they may display. We discuss how our body feels when we are experiencing these emotions so they can start to recognise these within themselves.

We discuss how it is ok to feel these emotions but we need to deal with them in an appropriate manner. We then look at the strategies we can use to help ourselves calm down and practise using them appropriately.
