PE Learning at Golden Hill
At Golden Hill, classes are usually mixed age groups, sometimes crossing Key Stages. Classes have a wide variety of ability and children have already completed various topics at their mainstream schools. Children often come into school disengaged from their learning and start at different points during the school year depending on when they have been excluded or referred. Children may arrive or leave mid-way through a topic.
Teachers plan from the most relevant age group for their class. This can change during the year. Please see the most recent newsletter to find out what each class is learning. To accommodate differing abilities of children, work is differentiated using a variety of resources.

Hawks and Owls class are currently engaged in weekly sessions with the UK Military School, where they undertake a series of challenging tasks designed to push them beyond their comfort zones. Under the mentorship of Gary, each child receives tailored support throughout these activies, fostering a fun and motivating environment. This engagement allows our children to navigate both successful and unsuccessful challenges, equipping them with essential skills to cope with various aspects of life, whether in school, at home, or in their future careers.
The programme aims to enhance Personal Development and Behaviour and Welfare, while seamlessly integrating vital topics such as Equality & Diversity, Personal Development, and the core subjects of English and Maths. The primary objective of these sessions is to ensure a holistic approach to education that fosters resilience and promotes positive behaviour among children. By addressing their emotional, social, and cognitive development, we aim to cultivate an environment conducive to well-rounded growth and lifelong learning.

Residential trips provide our children with invaluable opportunities to learn and experience new things beyond the confines of the traditional classroom setting. These excursions expose them to activities that they may not encounter regularly or may have never experienced before. Moreover, they play a pivotal role in cultivating personal growth, resilience, and essential life skills such as responsibility and social interaction.
The surge in confidence that arises from these residential trips benefits both children and staff alike. By stepping outside their comfort zones, the children find themselves in novel learning and social environments, which promotes personal growth and builds resilience. The challenges they face—whether it be building fires or collaborating to navigate paddle boards—serve to empower children, encouraging them to take responsibility for their actions.
This atmosphere of independence allows the children to sustain themselves with minimal staff intervention, fostering a profound sense of accomplishment and self-reliance.

Sports coaches are in school delivering a variety of sports. We aim to ensure that each class has access to the coaches at least once during the year.
